Club History

Bolton Percy Cricket Club is a long-established village cricket club based in Bolton Percy, near York in North Yorkshire. The club joined the York Senior Cricket League in 1963 and since then it has grown into an important sporting and social institution within the local community.

Situated on North Road in Bolton Percy, the club plays its home matches on one of the most picturesque grounds in the area, with views across open countryside and the church in the village. Over the decades, Bolton Percy Cricket Club has steadily developed its facilities, including a pavilion, clubhouse, practice nets and training areas, enabling it to support both competitive cricket and social events for members and visitors alike.

The club fields multiple senior teams, with its 1st and 2nd XIs competing in local and regional leagues, including the Yorkshire Premier League North. In addition, the club has a strong presence in midweek cricket through its participation in the Foss Evening Cricket League, ensuring opportunities for players of varying availability and experience.

A major part of Bolton Percy Cricket Club’s identity is its commitment to youth development and community engagement. The club runs a thriving junior section, with teams ranging from under-9s through to under-15s, and actively supports national ECB initiatives such as All Stars and Dynamos Cricket. These programmes help introduce young players to the game in a welcoming, family-friendly environment and ensure a strong future for cricket in the village.

Like many community clubs, Bolton Percy has faced challenges over the years. Severe flooding in 2015 caused significant damage to parts of the ground and facilities, but through the efforts of volunteers, supporters and external funding, the club rebuilt and improved its infrastructure. More recently, the club has embraced modern developments, including the introduction of live-streaming of matches, allowing supporters near and far to stay connected with the team.

Today, Bolton Percy Cricket Club stands as a proud example of village cricket at its best. With a rich history, strong community focus, and a commitment to developing players of all ages, the club continues to play a central role in both local sport and village life.
